P5 - Gentleness
This week, we're focusing on GENTLENESS!
GENTLENESS is behaving with kind words and actions that cause other people to feel safe. The opposite of GENTLENESS is HARSHNESS, easily embracing and expressing my weaknesses.
Do other people feel that you're a safe, welcoming person?
Here's a few ways we can show kids how to be gentle:
- Ask questions rather than give commands.
- Never take something away from another person. Instead, ask for it. Then wait for them to give it to you.
- "Listen down" a level, beyond what people are saying. Try to understand WHY they are saying something or acting a certain way.
- Speak into other people's hearts. "I noticed that when you came in you were happy, but now something is bothering you. Let's talk about what happened to cause that."
Who in your life has been a safe, gentle person? What did they do or say that demonstrated gentleness?
